With everything being on lockdown, other than essential services, it’s hard to rely on the some of TO’s best gimmicks. With no restaurants, bars, clubs, or other recreational activities, it can make the world of dating difficult because, let’s be real, there’s only so much you can do except keep the good vibes rolling from the comfort of your own living room.
But it’s obvious that you and your partner have one place that’s your ‘go to’, because it’s part of the charm when being in love. Having the same food preferences as your loved one is major, as you two can go all out while making the most bang for your buck.
But there are different types of places that can catch you and your loved one’s eye. If the two of you are a diner couple, a fusion couple, or a wine and dine couple (just to name a few!) I’ll show you how to remake your favourite food so that you can indulge at home.
If the two of you are diner and chain restaurant fanatics, then some of the best ways to recreate the vibe is all in the food. The beauty here is that they focus on being welcoming to everyone and don’t place emphasis on the location, as there is no need to dress up or compliment on the décor to fit in. If this is right up your alley, I’d recommend making some nachos as an appetizer, some burgers or Italian fare as a main, and some apple pie à la mode for dessert. These three dishes scream simple and delicious, which is bound to make your evening a success. Wash these down with a simple cocktail, such as a G&T, or some beer, put on some old funk or your favourite sport as you devour your dinner and reminisce about old times.
If you are more of a fusion couple, who love all types of cuisine on its own and blended together, then I’d recommend making each course from a different place, as it is a great way to get a taste of different types of cuisine all in one night and one setting. For a night like this, I would recommend starting with sushi or sushi burritos, to keep it light so that you have room for your other courses. This light and fun appetizer is really poppable and comes with a punch of flavour with each bite. Next up, some paella for your main affair (here is a vegetarian version), as this authentic Spanish dish will tickle anybody’s taste buds and complete your multicultural evening. These recipes are a one-way ticket to transport you and your partner to feeling like you’re travelling the world. All you have to do is pull out a nice bottle of wine and change into some dressy clothes to make this evening the real deal.
If you two are a couple who likes to wine and dine, then a tapas style dinner is perfect. To accompany your bottle(s) of wine, I’d suggest laying out some bowls of beer nuts, dried fruit, and your favourite chips. If the two of you get the munchies when you drink, this also goes well with a charcuterie board and a spinach and artichoke dip. The beauty about this dinner is that the two of you don’t need an appetizer, main, or dessert but instead just a large table that has room for all your tapas at once. It’s fancy and not too filling, which makes it the perfect companion when drinking a bottle (or two, three, or four). Dim the lights, put on some romantic music, and get to snacking while sipping.
While cooking is a lot of work and can feel like a task and a half, I can assure you that it feels rewarding when you finish. Seeing what you made come out perfectly is an amazing feeling, which comes with a lot of satisfaction. This is also a great way to bond, as if you cook together then it allows you to join efforts, make an amazing meal, and feel the satisfaction as one.
As always, stay healthy and safe.
