11 Must Try Toronto Food Trucks Before Summer Ends

Dating In The 6ix Aug 10, 2020

Food trucks are the unicorns of the food world, they are few and far between but pump out pure joy every time you see one or eat from one. Whenever you spot a food truck, it is a unique experience that is never casual, except celebrations. Let's be real, anyplace that can bring me tacos, pizza, doughnuts, etc. without a delivery fee deserves a hundred gold medals because it is adding to my "secret" Starbucks fund. So without further a do, let's get on to some of the best food trucks that are a MUST before this summertime comes to a close.

#1 Food Dudes

This is one food truck that you cannot miss! They are uber-unique as their menu is a mishmash of Korean, Mexican, and American Diner vibes all in one, which is pretty fantastic.

Instead of just catering (no pun intended) to one type of cuisine, which can lead to a specific type of customers, they branch out and appeal to people experiencing different variations of hanger. From their signature Bibimbap bowl, to their Fish Taco, or the Truck Burger, there is something for everyone while still adding a vivacious touch to each dish.

There are also a variety of side dishes and shareable plates, if you're not in the mood for a meal, which makes this a good date spot or late night bite. Their fries and dumplings are to die for and use such familiar flavors in a reconstructed way making each bite truly unique.

Because I don't want to sound like #spon, definitely go check them out whenever you get the chance and splurge, because they are as fabulous as they come. This, hands down, is one of those rare specialty casual dining places that is AMAZING, so go big or go home, right!?

#2 Heirloom

Looking for a sugar overload on your cheat day? Then this is the perfect food truck for you! Famously known for serving cheesecake on a stick, Heirloom has got all of your sweet-tooth cravings covered during the day and the night.

Aside from only using locally sourced ingredients, which deserves a huge A+, they have a really different menu that could be served at a gourmet restaurant. Their lobster grilled cheese, maple-glazed truffle fried chicken sandwich, and duck confit tacos are all insanely rich and come with such amazing textures, making them worth all the while and every mile.

Heirloom also specializes within the realm of certain ingredients that definitely helped to put them on the map. Their widespread asian-esque and vegan/vegetarian dishes, like kung pao shrimp tacos, vegetarian bánh mì, and buffalo cauliflower burger are all packed with flavor and come with such a unique blend of spices.

This is one of those food trucks that is irresistible and will make you want to eat the entire menu. Each dish is more tempting then the first and can leave your moth watering just from the description. Come, try, and indulge while you expand your palette in unimaginable ways you never thought were possible!

#3 AliJandro's Kitchen

This Mediterranean style food truck puts a cool spin on it's menu by mixing in Mexican and American ingredients and spices. If you're a meat lover, vegetarian, vegan, or something in between, you will be sure to find something to satisfy your cravings.

While you come for their OG Hummus, you'll leave with their Fawaffle because Alijandro's Kitchen captures the perfect blend of classic diner food with Mediterranean and Mexican staples. Two great examples of this, which make you want to drool, are their Alij's Not Shawarma and their Fawaffle "Original". Alij's Not Shawarma is every fusion enthusiast dream come true! It's a Shawarma and burrito hybrid, and let's be honest, nothing sounds better than marinated protein (of your choice) with rice and mixed beans. Similarly, fresh vegetables, sumac, and mint tahini sounds perfect, especially when encased in a falafel waffle cone.

We all need more fusion food on the daily and this is the perfect place to dive right in and experiment. Every ingredient used is as fresh as can be and it shows because each dish is so flavorful and vibrant.

#5 The Holy Grill

While the name of the food truck says it all, and pays tribute to Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, so we already know this one is going to be AMAZING!

Their creative menu comes with a lot of unique flavors massaged into popular dishes, which makes it really easy to enjoy while getting inspired. Their Truffle Fried Chicken Sandwich and Korean Fried Sweet Potato Salad are two great examples where the dishes are vastly known but the ingredients are drastically different. The use of truffles in the fried chicken sandwich adds an additional flavor, which makes it feel a lot more rich and juicy, similarly to how the red bean paste and spicy mayo elevate the Fried Sweet Potato Salad by adding the same rich flavor and texture.

The Holy Grill has a wide variety of equally healthy and "junky" food items to satisfy your craving, so whether you're on a strict diet or longing for a cheat day, there is something for everyone. They have such a wide spread of vegetarian and vegan items while still caring for their meat lovers, so it's a great option for large groups. The menu is so diverse, which makes it worth the while. #6 GYOT (Get Your Own Taters)

GYOT has got the new party motto down stat. Taters are such a delicious breakfast food and late night bite that it needs more recognition, and GYOT does a great job at spreading the word.

GYOT has integrated taters into a variety of fusion dishes so subtly and deliciously that it's hard to say no to seconds and thirds. Their TOT-al Jerk and Philly-TOT are just two of their amazing tater tot filled dishes to go around. They also have a few classic options that will make your heads turn, like their taters and dip and their spin on poutine called the Great Canadian Taters, which features their signature gravy, cheese curds, and red chili flakes for a lil bit of a kick.

Curbside Dogs is as classic as food trucks come. Their menu is a whirlwind of the best American diner classics one with a few extra twists and turns. From hamburgers, veggie hotdogs, chicken souvlaki, and potato salad, their menu screams vintage with gourmet ingredients.

They also do a great job at accommodating all diets in delicious ways. From using vegan mayo to alternative meats, from soy or vegetable protein, it gives people with a variety of allergies or diets a chance to enjoy their food without a crazy amount of substitutions, which is all the reason to go here. Street meat often has a bad rep for being unhealthy and "unsafe to eat", but Curbside Dogs definitely gives street meat a whole new meaning and clean rep.

All the combinations here are timeless and the flavors just work and nobody ever seems to question how. Their classic quesadillas and burritos are only a portion of the menu, but they are enough to bring the people back for round 2.

#11 The Portobello Burger

This all vegetarian and vegan themed food truck is one-of-a-kind. They have amazing and flavorful dishes without the extra weight of meat, because it can be rather hearty sometimes, but with all the right textures and ingredients to leave you as full as you can be.

Their semi-healthy dishes, like their Lentil Soup and Garlic Parm Fries, are great as snacks or light meals to keep you going without making you feel like a balloon for the rest of the day. This is key for days where you want something satisfying and light because their dishes are amazingly spiced without the added grease, which we all crave every so often. But, as a side note, they are amazing all around so definitely go give them a try.

Mushroom Poutine

(Crispy Fries, Homemade Mushroom Gravy (Cremini Mushrooms, Portobello Mushrooms, Arrow Root, Coconut Milk, Tamari, Nutritional Yeast, Vegan Butter, Garlic, Salt, Pepper, Rosemary), topped with Cheese Curds or Vegan Cheese)
