How To Use Your Talents During Self-Isolation

Cards, Gifts, & DIYs Jun 15, 2020

If you and your boo are the artsy types, then this is the perfect times to develop your talents because there really isn’t anywhere else to go. Whether it’s music, art, sports, or cooking, this is the chance to improve your skills and become the best, if you aren’t already.

Musicians

If music is your passion, then there are so many ways you can use your talents during this time in quarantine. For starters, aside from practising, you can share some of your music on Soundcloud. This platform is great for focusing only on your music, as it’s only audio, and no music video is required. If you’re looking a way to let people discover you for your sound, instead of branding yourself, then this is the way to go.

Another great way to share your musical skills is to post snippets of you performing on Instagram, Facebook, or Youtube. Create a page for your band or transform your personal page into a place where your music can be showcased. You never know who is browsing, watching, or listening, so take advantage of the opportunity and perform.

Artists

If you two are artists, one of the new popular forms of entertainment is to create some embroidered paintings. Simply grab a canvas. Then you can paint it if you like, and trace an outline with a pencil before embroidering it. Next, take some string and trace your pre-made outline with a colour of your choosing. This is a great way to entertain (and promote) yourselves during self-isolation, as it’s fun yet challenging, without being too time consuming. Once the two of you are done one (two, three, four, or more) paintings, you can promote your work on social media and start your embroidered paintings fame.

If this sounds like something that isn’t up your alley, you two could always try redesigning some of the clothes which are old or never worn. You two can simply cut, tie die, or crop some of the clothes sitting at the back of the closet. This is a great way to discover a new talent or hobby because it’s effortless, fun, and practical. Aside from donating clothes (which is always useful and kind) this is a great way to “reuse” your clothes instead of letting them collect dust or be thrown away without a second look.

Sports

If you and your loved one are athletes, whether it be dance, basketball, volleyball, etc., this is a great opportunity to brush up on those skills and become the next champion, on and off the court. If working out is more your style, then filming some at- home workout videos is one way to stay active. It can be yoga, vlogging your personal trainer sessions, or tutorials on the best exercises, such as core, legs, etc. It’s a great way to stay fit, as well as keeping others motivated.

If you two are into dancing, one way to promote yourself and practise is to create a social media page devoted to teaching TikTok dances or other dances that are climbing the charts to popularity. Whether it be on Instagram or Facebook, or even Youtube, people right now are craving to learn all the latest trends to the songs on the top 40 list. This is also a great way to be active in a fun way. Sometimes organized sports or running can get a bad rep, but dance is something everyone loves, whether it’s watching or participating.

Cooking + Baking

If cooking and/or baking is your and your loved one’s passion, then there are a lot of ways you can turn it into more than a hobby. For one, you could start a blog and share your favourite recipes or restaurants with those looking for new recipes to create and new places to try. This is also a great way to find like-minded people and support your favourite local business, as we all want to help in whatever way we can.

Another option could be to start an Insta page or Youtube channel dedicated to your works of art. Become an influencer with a total savoury or sweet side while showcasing your works of cooking or baking art. People adore seeing videos of food on repeat and the tutorials of how to make them, which is perfect for right now, as people are more flexible with time. Cooking and baking are timeless talents, and ones worth sharing, so whatever platform you choose, people will adore the two of you for sharing your most prized kitchen secrets.

There’s no time like the present to use your talents for the greater good. Whether you use this time to get a leg up on practising or starting a new project, these are great ways to advance your hobby or passion. This is also a great way to keep busy and distracted because self-isolating can be a tough task, especially with it constantly being on the news 24/5. Spread your artistic or athletic wings and share your talents with the world, because as much as it helps you during this time, it can help everyone around you too.

As always, stay healthy and safe.

Xoxo,

Maya
